Relocating Hosted Phones

Dear Hosted Phone Customer,

We at GWI greatly appreciate the trust and confidence you have placed in us to provide your organization with seamless and cost effective hosted phone service. As we all continue to take precautionary steps during the COVID-19 outbreak, we realize that allowing your employees to work remotely may be a key component of those precautions.

Your GWI hosted phone services may be flexible enough to support this option and we wanted to inform you of three critical components for making such a transition as successful as possible.

First depending on where the stations are redeployed, each phone may need an external power supply. In the office, these phones are often powered centrally from the business-grade network equipment. When removed from the office environment, these phones require external power adapters. You may purchase these devices through several  suppliers; however, the links provided are from Amazon. GWI does not endorse any specific manufacturer or vendor as there are many options to choose from. The list below represents a variety of solutions that will power the phone.

  • Universal Power Adapter (use the link or search for “AFKT 48V AC Adapter for Aastra” on Amazon
  • Universal PoE Injectors:
  • Link or search for “48V 24W 0.5A POE Injector Adapter Power Supply for Most Cisco/Polycom/Aastra Phones and More” on Amazon
  • Link or search for “Creatin Wall Plug POE Injector With 48v Power Supply 802.3af” on Amazon
  • Ethernet Switch with PoE (use the link or search for “BV-Tech 6 Port PoE+ Switch (4 PoE+ Ports with 2 Ethernet Uplink and Extend Function)” on Amazon

In addition to powering your phone station, you will be required to connect it to the network using a standard category 5e (or equivalent) ethernet cable.  The phone station must be physically connected to the network switch or router. A home computer or laptop may be connected to the phone stations with an additional category 5e ethernet cable.  These cables may be purchased from a variety of local and online retailers in various lengths.

Finally it is extremely important that you update the e911 information for the relocated station. Failure to do so is not only a violation of Federal Law, it may result in the accidental dispatch of first responders to the wrong address in the event of an emergency. Please use this Google Form  to provide updated address information to us.

GWI remains available to continue to support you and your staff during these difficult times. Please feel free to contact our Customer Satisfaction team toll free at 1-866-287-0234 should you have any questions or if we may be of any additional service to you.

Thank you,

Your GWI Team
