Midcoast Email Migration Guide

This guide is intended to provide you with some options for migrating emails from your @midcoast.com account to a new email service. Identifying what type of user you are might help in determining the best migration method to use.

Types of Email Users:

  • Personal – Most of your emails are likely from friends or family members. These emails may contain pictures or other memories that you’d like to save so you might have the need to migrate only some, not all, of your emails.
  • Business – Most of your emails are likely from customers, vendors or financial institutions. These emails may contain contracts or invoices that you’d like to save so you’ll most likely have the need to migrate all of your emails.

Options for Migrating your Emails (choose one):

Recommended for Personal users

  1. You can forward emails from your @midcoast.com email account to your new account. This method allows you to choose between migrating all or only some of your emails. Find the @midcoast.com emails that you’d like to migrate, click on the Forward button and enter your new email address to send them to your new email account.

Recommended for Business users

  1. You may be able to configure your email client so your @midcoast.com and new email account are both present. Once that has been done, you can copy some or all of your emails from your @midcoast.com email account to your new email account. The following article from Liquid Web has some directions for how to complete this process.

An Option for Personal and Business users

  1. A local computer repair or IT consulting company might be able to help you create a new email account and migrate emails from your @midcoast.com account. Many of these companies may do house visits, phone calls and/or schedule an appointment at their place of business.

Steps for Migrating your Address Book or Contacts List:

  1. Export – Using the webmail interface or an email client for your @midcoast.com account, go to your contacts list or address book and choose the Export option. Your list will be exported and saved as a file on your computer.
  2. Import – Using the web interface or an email client for your new email account, go to your contacts list or address book and choose the Import option. Select the file that was saved on your computer from step one to import your list.

Updating Your Email Address:

Once you’ve created an account with a new email service, you’ll want to replace your @midcoast.com email address with your new address anywhere it is being used. Think about where you receive emails from and use the list below as a guide:

  • Family and friends
  • Subscription services such as streaming, digital newspapers, etc.
  • Bank or other payment accounts
  • Social media accounts
  • Customers or vendors (for business email users)
