DSL Transition

Effective March 31, 2025 GWI will no longer offer Residential DSL and Phone Services. Residential customers with fiber based service will not be impacted. As a result, your internet and phone services will no longer be operational after this date. You will need to transition to an alternative provider or technology prior to this date to avoid any disruption in your services.

We suggest you contact one of the following providers as they have the largest service areas for residential internet and phone in Maine:

Phone

The providers listed above may also provide phone service in addition to internet. 

You will be able to keep your current phone number by porting (transferring) it to a new service provider. We have removed PIC freezes to make it easier to transfer your phone number. Your new provider can request the transfer of your phone number by following specific rules established by the FCC that all phone providers are required to follow. The transfer of the phone number usually takes 5-7 business days if all the information to transfer the number is correct.

We are required to reject requests with missing or incorrect information. For example, if the name on the account or the address do not match your new provider may need to correct that information and resubmit to GWI. 

Email

If you have an email address with GWI, it will be discontinued on April 30, 2025. We urge you to switch to Gmail through Google for your email. Create a Gmail account: https://support.google.com/mail/answer/56256?hl=en

For email, please consider the following:

  • Forward any necessary emails from your GWI email to your new email account. 
  • After setting up your new email account, change any accounts associated with your GWI email to your new email. 
  • Consider any contacts that need to be updated with your new email account.
