April Update from our President and COO

I hope you and your family are healthy and blessed. As we all are looking forward to the days of vaccinations and the regular movements of life to starting returning to normal, for GWI, 2021 shapes up to be a busy year along several important fronts.

  • We are an approved provider of Emergency Broadband Benefit Program that is administered by the federal government (FCC) which allows for broadband connection costs to be subsidized for qualifying households. Our commitment to digital inclusion remains constant.
  • We are coordinating with a multiplicity of communities in Maine in terms of collaborating and partnering up with them to operate their municipal broadband networks. We will operate those networks (and also be the ISP) keeping with the principles of open-access, net neutrality and data privacy. The work to finance, design, build and operate municipal networks is hard and lengthy but it is empowering; provides choice, fair prices and an asset that future generations will leverage and be proud of.
  • We continue to press ahead with our plans to inform about the joyous advantages of being a certified B Corporation and why it is important for Maine consumers to consider such companies as they exercise their purchasing choices.
  • As we look at our larger fiber to be premise projects in South Portland and Belfast, our smaller projects in Columbia Avenue in Brunswick have been a lot of fun. These efforts fuel us on our desire to work together with all of Maine having fiber to their homes and businesses.
