Emergency Broadband Benefit Program

GWI is participating in the Federal Communication Commission’s Emergency Broadband Benefit Program (EBB).  The program is designed to financially assist struggling families during the pandemic.  Eligible households can receive discount on internet services of up to $50 a month.


  • Qualifies for the Lifeline program, including those who are on Medicaid or receive SNAP benefits;
  • Receives benefits under the free and reduced-price school lunch program or the school breakfast program, including through the USDA Community Eligibility Provision, or did so in the 2019- 2020 school year;
  • Experienced a substantial loss of income since February 29, 2020, and the household had a total income in 2020 below $99,000 for single filers and $198,000 for joint filers;
  • Received a Federal Pell Grant in the current award year; or
  • Meets the eligibility criteria for a participating provider’s existing low-income or COVID-19 program
  • Meets speed threshold requirement (household must be in an area where GWI Fiber is available)

Eligible Areas Based on Speed Threshold:

  • Rockport (portions of)
  • South Portland (portions of)
  • Brunswick (portions of)
  • Saco (portions of)

GWI Internet Speed Tier Offerings in Eligible Areas:

  • 125/125 mbps
  • 250/250 mbps
  • 500/500 mbps

Steps to Enroll:

  1. Customer must apply for eligibility – https://getemergencybroadband.org/how-to-apply/
  2. Once eligibility is determined, customers will need to contact GWI in order to enroll in the program
  3. How to contact GWI: Customers should email EBBP@staff.gwi.net with the subject line: “Enrollment Request EBBP”
    • Please include the following information:
      • Eligibility confirmation number
      • Preferred contact number
      • If you are a current GWI customer, please include your customer ID
