Many Maine residents can now renew their vehicle registration and pay their excise taxes right online through the Bureau of Motor Vehicles new Rapid Renewal program. Here's how you do it:

First, have the following items available:

1. current vehicle registration
   
2. current proof of insurance
   
3. current mileage
   
4. credit card or checkbook
   

Whether you can renew online varies by municipality. Check to see if your municipality is part of the program by checking the list on the Rapid Renewal website at www.SOSonline.org.

Go to www.SOSonline.org and select Rapid Renewal and follow the easy step-by-step instructions.

Once you complete your online renewal, print the confirmation page as verification of your transaction. Your new registration form and license plate decals will arrive in the mail within 7 business days.
