When most of us think of email, we see ourselves sending messages to or receiving them from friends, family and business associates. However, there is much more that you can do with email. Here are some ideas to get you started.

Get all the news and information you want, delivered to your (email) door!

Like to know what's going on in the world, but don't have enough time to sit and read the paper every day? Many newspapers offer email briefs or headlines that you can have sent daily to your email address. These briefs contain links to the more detailed stories that you can read if you want to.

For example, you can get daily headlines from the Portland Press Herald by going to their website at www.pressherald.com and signing up for their "Headlines by Email" service. Most of the large national papers offer similar services.

Let someone know you care, send an email greeting card!

Many portal sites, like Yahoo (http://greetings.yahoo.com), have free greeting card services, as do websites by card companies like American Greetings (www.americangreetings.com) and Hallmark (www.hallmark.com). Another great site for free cards is Blue Mountain Arts at http://free.bluemountain.com. It's easy to send a card by email, and some feature animation and music. American Greetings even features recipe cards, with a pumpkin cheesecake recipe that's perfect for the holiday season!

Planning a party or holiday gathering? Send your invitations by email!

Save time and money by sending your invitations by email. On many of the sites that feature greeting cards you will also find invitations that can be sent by email. Check out the Yahoo site above, they have some great email invitations perfect for the Christmas season.

You can also create your own card and attach it to your email, or keep it simple by sending an email text message. These options allow you to email your invitation to many people at once, and make it easy for them to respond...all they have to do is reply to your email.
