LUCENT TECHNOLOGY'S VENUS CHIPSET

Lucent's most recent modem chipset is referred to as the 'Venus' chipset. This is a fairly new chipset, and we are currently unsure as to what modems it is actually used in. We do know that it may be used in PCMCIA and External modems. It uses a similar command set, but with enough differences so that the commands for and LT Winmodem will not work correctly.

DESCRIPTIONS OF COMMANDS:

  • AT: Modem Attention command. Not used through the Windows 95/98/NT Modems Control Panel
  • Language: This setting allows you to force the modem to use a particular language to connect. The v.90 language tends to be more reliable that k56flex in most cases. Even so, you may need to add a Maxspeed command to limit the modem to keep its connect stable.
  • Maxspeed: The Maxspeed Setting for the LT Venus chipset modems is a little bit different. This command will work differently depending on which language the modem is using to connect. GWI recommends that if you use this command, that you also use the Language command to force the modem to connect using only v.90 or k56flex.

Note: The 0s in any of the commands are the number zero, not the letter O.
