SPAM FILTERING & VIRUS PROTECTION FOR DOMAINS

GWI provides SPAM filtering and virus protection in partnership with Postini to all domains hosted by GWI and their related email addresses. For more information on this free service, please review our main SPAM Filtering and Virus Protection page.

In order to filter mail for your domain through this service, your domain:

  1. Must be hosted by GWI, and
  2. Mail for that domain must be received by our servers*.

If these two requirements are met, you can activate the your Message Center for the address postmaster@yourdomain.com. The filters you set for this Message Center will apply to messages sent to all addresses at your domain. When you set this up, please keep in mind that:

  • The person with access to the Message Center can view blocked mail for any address at your domain.
  • Users other than postmaster do not have their own Message Center and cannot have individual filter settings for their email address.
Merging Message Centers for Domain Accounts with GWI Access Accounts:

This filtering service allows multiple addresses to be filtered by a single Message Center. This is done using the Alias option in the Message Center. By aliasing domain account(s) to GWI Internet access account(s), the following configurations are possible:

  1. If you have a single domain, you can filter both the domain and your GWI access account email through a single Message Center.
  2. If you have multiple domains with GWI, you can filter all of them through one Message Center.
  3. If you have a domain address aliased to a GWI access account, you can add that address to your Message Center so that your GWI filters apply to the domain address.
EXAMPLES:

1. Merging your GWI access account email with your postmaster@yourdomain.com address:

  • Log in to your postmaster@yourdomain.com Message Center (http://login.postini.com/exec/login).
  • Account Settings -> Add an Alternate Address
  • Enter GWI access account address and Submit.**
  • Follow instructions in email send to GWI access account.

2. Filter multiple domains through one Message Center:

  • Pick a master account (one of your postmaster@yourdomain.com addresses). You can also use a GWI access account Message Center if you have one.
  • Log in to that Message Center.
  • Follow the above instructions for the postmaster address at each domain you control to add them to this Message Center.

3. Set up your GWI access account Message Center to filter your domain address(es):

  • Log in to your access account Message Center.
  • Account Settings -> Add an Alternate Address
  • Enter the domain.com address(es) (one at a time) and Submit.
  • Respond to the email(s) to link those addresses to their account.

Remember that:

  • If any Message Center lists user@domain.com in its Alternate Addresses, that Message Center is used to filter that address.
  • All other addresses are filtered by the postmaster@domain.com Message Center.

Limitations:

GWI does not currently offer the ability for a domain to purchase additional Message Centers for domain accounts. There are only two methods for achieving separate filters for multiple domain addresses:

  1. Link a domain.com address as an Alternate Address within an existing GWI Message Center. This requires that the user in question has a mailbox or access account with GWI.
  2. Purchase filtering service for domain.com directly from Postini (http://www.postini.com/) .

*Note: If you manage your own mail server, filtering is not available through GWI. You must configure you own local filtering software, or purchase filtering service from a company like Postini (http://www.postini.com/).
**Note: If you remove or alias your postmaster@yourdomain.com address to any other address, your domain email will no longer be filtered.
