Biddeford, ME, March 6, 2007 –
GWI, Maine’s local Internet and phone service provider, announces
Comedy Night “Best Medicine” to benefit families of the Center Street
fire in Biddeford at the Wonderball ballroom in Biddeford March 9th at
7:00 p.m. Sponsored by GWI in conjunction with the Biddeford
Underground, the evening will be hosted by Scott Roberge, costar of the
new HBO movie “Compton: The Return of the Westsider.” The comedy
showcase is designed to alleviate symptoms of misfortune by providing
laughter, as all proceeds of the event are to benefit the families of
the fire.
GWI is proud to be a community leader offering a list of services
designed for specific community needs such as:
GWI and the MLTF Program (Maine Learning
Technology Foundation) have formed a partnership, which will allow
students who qualify for the Free and Reduced School Lunch Program to
receive dial up access to the Internet at no cost to the student. The
MLTF, under the leadership of Former Maine Governor Angus King, raised
the funds to provide this service in order to continue the mission of
Maine's Laptop Project to expand learning opportunities for students
and reduce the impact of the digital divide in Maine. In addition to
the free accounts for students, GWI and MLTF have also developed a plan
that will allow for significantly discounted prices on GWI's broadband
service to any student or teacher with an MLTI iBook.
GWI’s Homefront Program provides
discounted GWI Internet access to Maine Army and Air National Guard
troops ordered to active duty in the global war on terrorism. GWI
wishes to make this offer available to troops at their one primary
Maine residence so their immediate families can stay-in-touch while
deployed, or so returning troops can maintain communications with those
still stationed in conflict areas.
GWI's Charitable and Non-Profit Program,
currently serving 250 local non-profit organizations, is designed to
allow those organizations serving our local calling area to have
inexpensive access to the Internet for providing information relevant
to the non-profit organization, its purpose, and activities; for
communication with their membership; and for the furtherance of their
mission. We facilitate this communication by providing basic email,
Internet access, and websites for a minimal setup charge and annual
registration fee. GWI recognizes the tremendous contributions that
non-profits make to our community and offers this special package to
assist in the efforts of these organizations.
