Fletcher Kittredge, CEO
Fletcher is the CEO and founder of GWI. Fletcher grew up in Arundel, Maine and went to Colby College, where he majored in English. He graduated in 1984 and in the same year, went to Cambridge, Massachusetts and started working at the research lab, Bolt Beranek and Newman (BBN). The following year Fletcher started graduate work at Harvard University in Computer Science. In 1993, the New York Times had a front page article about the Internet and how it was going to be very big. Fletcher took a small inheritance of $48,000, moved to Maine, and started Biddeford Internet Corporation in 1994, a company which still operates today as GWI. A passionate advocate for broadband growth and network neutrality, Fletcher serves on the ConnectMaine advisory board in addition to his role at GWI. He led GWI’s efforts to obtain a $25 million Federal grant to deploy 1,110 miles of high capacity fiber optic in rural Maine as part of the Three Ring Binder project, later transitioning those funds to independent Maine Fiber Company in order to foster competition and lower broadband costs for rural Maine. In 2011, Fletcher was recognized by MaineBiz as Business Leader of the Year for his leadership of GWI and bringing funding for Three Ring Binder to Maine.
Patrick Sweeney, CFO
Patrick Sweeney joined the GWI team as Chief Financial Officer in 2012 to help the company implement and achieve an aggressive five year growth plan. Known as a leader who builds strong teams and implements rigorous financial systems to help organizations deliver results, Pat has 30 years of experience leading financial, marketing, and sales teams in several industries. Most recently, Pat Served as Interim CEO of Maine Today Media, a $50Million, 450 employee newspaper and digital media company. Pat’s career also includes experience in nationwide real estate, services and manufacturing.
Kerem Durdag, Chief Operating Officer
Kerem Durdag has over 20 years of experience directing world-class teams in the manufacturing and technology sectors. Previously he served as the Entrepreneur-In-Residence for the Maine Technology Institute. Prior, he was the CEO of Biovation (advanced materials) whose assets were sold in 2016 to a global Chinese company. He served as CEO of Biode, Inc. a start-up, leading it to growth (with the founder and CTO) and eventual acquisition by a public company. He has also been the CTO of a large US subsidiary of a public German company and was the leader of the engineering department of a young US electronics company which went public. Kerem has served on several Boards and is a member of the Maine angel investing community. He lives in Scarborough, with his wife Mary and three children.
Heather Kelley, Vice President of Operations
Heather Kelley joined GWI in June, 1999 as part of the Technical Support team. With a decade of management experience she quickly joined the management team. Heather has managed many different teams during her tenure with GWI: Technical Support, Sales, Business Help Desk, Field Technicians and Billing. She is a strong operational manager with now over 20 years of management experience. Prior to working for GWI Heather managed a quality assurance team for a Direct Response Marketing call center. Heather attended the University of Connecticut in Storrs, CT; she also has an AS in Computer Technology from Southern Maine Technical College.
Sean Byrne, Director of Commercial Sales
Sean Byrne leads GWI’s direct sales team in its efforts to grow the company’s commercial services business. Sean has nearly 20 years’ experience selling telecommunications and managed services to businesses, including tenures at MCI, Qwest Communications, and International managed service provider Nexus Management.
Brad Dormanen, Director of Information Technology
Brad Dormanen is an Information Technology professional specializing in IT Management, IT Design and Data Center Technologies. Ever since Brad was a youth, he was passionate about technology, which shows in his career in the IT field. His early career started in Minnesota where he provided computer services to the public. After moving to Maine, Brad spent 12 years with a world-class IT services company developing and implementing IT services to hundreds of global customers. He started as a help desk team leader and worked his way up in the company to eventually become their technical manager, responsible for the technical staff and technology hosted in their data center. Brad brings those skills to GWI where he manages the technical infrastructure, data centers and assists in developing new products for GWI’s customers.
Eric Smith, Director of Service Delivery and Customer Service
Eric Smith joined GWI in 2012. His team is responsible for the delivery and implementation of GWI’s commercial products and services. He has a strong and varied background in the Information Technology industry. He founded his own company, ValCom, in 1980. He grew ValCom and its VTEC training division to become Maine’s largest provider of IT services and training. After merging his business with CBE Technologies in 2003, he remained on staff as a major accounts sales executive. Eric graduated from Dartmouth College in 1977. He has three grown sons and lives in South Portland with wife Susan.
Chris Whelan, Director of Network Engineering
After nearly a decade in the industry, Chris joined the GWI team in 2010. He acquired experience from various roles at Susquehanna Communications and Comcast Cable: field services, product development, backbone engineering, training coordinator, management, and sales engineering. Applying his knowledge of fiber optic transport, DWDM and Metro Ethernet, Chris lead the engineering team to a successful overhaul of the GWI transport network; allowing for advanced services and laying the foundation for reliability that our customers have come to expect. Chris currently directs a diverse team of world-class engineers that are responsible for the fiber design, data transport, customer access and voice networks. He has a significant influence on the design and deployment of the next-generation fiber access network and emphatically believes that fiber is the ultimate solution to meet the current and future demands of our consumers.
Colin Haley, Government Affairs and Public Relations Manager
Colin Haley joined the team in 2010 and previously served as a staff assistant on Senator Olympia Snowe’s re-election campaign in 2006 and was the southern Maine coordinator for Peter Mills’ gubernatorial campaign beginning in 2009. Colin is a graduate of Hamilton College with a B.A. in History.
